My family just moved to town and my father encouraged me to—that is, he told me to—try out for the wrestling team. I’m not big enough for baseball, let alone football, but wrestling has weight classes, so my size isn’t a problem. Actually, the team only has one other guy in my division, so it turned out to be an advantage. My dad says being an athlete is a good way to make new friends and it would make me less likely to be picked on. He’s probably right.
The coach let me join the team on one condition: pass a physical exam. Since I was new in town, I didn’t have a doctor. Coach recommended Dr. Wolf. I guess he sees a lot of the guys. I never actually had a physical before and didn’t know what to expect. My wrestling partner said that it was no big deal…
